that the best way for us to move forward with this transition is for us to start the school year together so that she can show me all of her class routines and structure, etc, so that the children that have been with her still feel like that have some sort of solid ground on which to stand. Not only that, but it will actually allow for me to have some sort of mentoring (something I ultimately should be getting, as this is 'officially' my internship year). Honestly I don't think this could have worked out any better. In any case, after talking with her about all of this, I think it is best if I simply use her supply list, since she does actually have things in mind for actual reasons. I can't say that I had solid ideas behind the things I was asking for, it was more a 'feeling' than anything.
So, that all being said, here is a copy of my new and improved school letter!
Dear Parents and Students,
My name is Sandy Wade. I am going to slowly be taking over Miss Patrice’s class this upcoming year. I’m looking forward to a wonderful school year with lots of learning! I can’t wait to meet your children so that we can learn and grow together.
It is extremely important to me that Miss Patrice and I work together to help make the transition for your children as smooth and seamless as possible. We have decided, as a team, to start the year out together and, as the weeks progress, phase me into the ‘lead’ position. I truly think this will be the best route for everyone involved, most importantly the students. Thankfully, we are in a situation that allows for this type of slow handing over of the reins, so to speak.
I am going to be using the class ‘wiki’ that Miss Patrice already has set up. Important information will be posted on it. Please go to: http://patricebritz.cmswiki.wikispaces.net
This site will give you an overview of our class, some information about the Montessori education experience offered to your child, classroom guidelines, supplies needed for the start of school, and a Parent Insight into Your Child/Class Volunteer Form. Please copy and paste that form into an email, fill it out, and send it to me as soon as possible via email. If at all possible, please send it to me before the start of school, or order to best help both you and your child this year.
As of right now, I do not have a CMS email. Until I do, I have set up a temporary school email at ....... If you would please send me your current email so that we can keep in touch, that would be wonderful. Feel free to contact me to say hello or with any questions you may have.
You are welcome to bring your child’s (and class) supplies to drop off during the Open House, before school begins, so your child doesn’t have to carry too much on the first day of school. Once school begins, I will announce a date/time to host a pot-luck dinner in our class so that you’ll have a chance to get to know me as well as the other families in our class, and we can all have a chance to talk together about the upcoming school year.
I need and look forward to your ongoing support throughout the year as we guide them. Together we will encourage kindness to others, concentration, and choosing and completing meaningful work each day so that the children in our class may grow and develop in a healthy way, at their own pace- all the while being a cooperative part of the group, as they discover the grand scope of the universe around them and begin to appreciate their part of it.
Let me know if I can assist you in any way.
Thank you,
Miss Sandy
